My brother the painter....

My brother hasn't had a "job" in a while,
but he's one of those people that have many talents and
work just falls in his lap.. For years at a time.. lol
During the Olympics he got a job doing
security and playing trombone with the
Army band at a couple different events.
He plays BASS trombone, which is kind of a
niche instrument, and along with playing with the
15th Field Artillery Band, he plays with other local concert
and jazz bands regularly..
He got a job moving office furniture on some weekends
that pay him a lot of money, especially on holiday weekends!

He's a barista and latte artist so he will occasionally
get calls from coffee shop owners to come out and work..

ANOTHER job that he does with some regularity (and
the point of this rambling post) is
painting interiors of houses.. and sometimes exteriors..
He asked me to make some Thank you cards for some of
his paint clients, and this is what I threw together:

I airbrushed the clouds, and coloured the houses with Copic
markers. The house stamps are an older October Afternoon
set that really come in handy.
SRM Stickers saved the day again with
sleek and stylish sentiments, perfect for these
little cards!

That's all for now! Have a lovely weekend!

Why do I love trends?
I have always been a trend-follower, even if it doesn't always show.
I'm not the most fashionable person, (although I don't think
I would EVER be nominated for "What Not to Wear!")
but I do love clothes and bags and shoes and ofcourse:
I am NOT one of those people that goes to scrapbook
garage sales looking for old papers and embellishments, I love
using fresh, new, exciting product, and banners are
no exception!

Why did banners become a trend? Who decided that? I have NO idea
who did, but I like it! This is a Silhouette cut I downloaded the other day.
I have to say that since Silhouette became it's own company last year
their cuts have improved 10-fold!
SO many trendy images to choose from.

I toiled over this card. I wanted a sun for the corner and ransacked my
entire stash to find I have no suns, so I added the button..
Then the bottom was plain..
I couldn't figure out what to do on the bottom,
then I spied some green CS..
I don't have those special scissors that cut grass,
but I just did it by hand:

I think it turned out pretty darn good! Since this was a birthday card I
added a "make a wish" SRM sentiment along the bottom,
and it was done.

Toiling over.

Embellish Colour Challenge #2

I had so much fun with
(with butterflies) that I had to make another
card. It's a gorgeous colour combo...

I used the Slice to cut out the butterfly as well
as the sentiment. (Basics 2 and Words & Expressions)
The background was stamped with Damask Designs (PTI)

Have a great day and thanks for looking!

Jacksonbelle Tuesday Challenge

NNAny other colour

I chose Pink!

I cut the butterfly out of Basic Grey paper with the Slice,
and mounted some PTI paper behind it. Then I added some
Zva pearls down the middle, sewed some ribbon, added a
sentiment, and VOILA!

I like it!
If you want to play along, be sure to follow the rules,
load your card up to your blog/a gallery, and
link it to THIS POST!

Squeezed in some time to create...

I have been really sick for the last month and it came to a
climax on Monday night when I ended up in the hospital with
an almost-closed throat (asthma and strep combined)
and a cough that wouldn't let up.. I have since improved, but
my energy is drained, and I have had little mojo for
creating, BUT, I've missed making cards so I had to play
a little...

This first card is for the Embellish Challenge:
This challenge requires you to create a project using butterflies. Butterflies may be stamped, die cut, punched or on patterned paper!  You can incorporate the theme in many ways, such as a card, scrapbook layout, mini book, tag, gift bag, box, etc. The main colors are highlighted in Polaroid inspired color swatches. Keep the colors of your project as close to the colors in the challenge image.  Remember, colors can be incorporated into your project in more ways than cardstock.

All of the colours were added with Copic markers and the airbrush system.
I stamped and cut out a second butterfly which I then doused in glitter,
added some bling, and folded the wings up for dimension.

The colours used were: E31/34 for the "Kraft" colour, and
YG00/21/25 for the green.
The sentiment is an SRM sticker and the butterfly is Unity!

You want a laugh?? This is was first card I made for the colour
Do you see any butterflies? No? That's 'cause there aren't any.
It's called, reading the directions, Tobi! C'mon, you're
a teacher for Cripe's sake! (who's cripe??)

Anyway... It turned out to be a pretty sweet card, so I thought
I'd post it. And no, I'm not blonde!!
(I used the same colours as the last card plus
Stamps: Wonderfully Whimsical (PTI)
and sentiment by October Afternoon

Back to my roots... and the stack of paper winner!!

Yay Jan!! I am so happy for you!
You can see a peek of some of the papers you're getting in the picture above.
Email me with your addy and I'll get that off to you ASAP!

Now for a card!! I got back to my "roots" of stamping! How quickly
we forget how easy (and effective)
it is to stamp a background instead of patterned paper!
This was a card that I planned in my head BEFORE I sat down to craft.
Do any of you do that? I NEVER do! I like to create organically, and for
me that means looking around at my supplies, choosing papers/colours/stamps
and letting my creativity take over. I have to say, though, that the
card came together REALLY quickly when I knew what I
was doing before-hand!

I'll be back tomorrow with this week's Jacksonbelle challenge!
Until then, take care!

Supplies: Paper: Elzybells kraft, Neenah white; Ink: Papertrey "Fresh Snow", Versamagic "Jumbo Java", Stamps: Butterfuly by Unity, Script BG by Hero Arts; SRM Sticker from "Thinking of You" Sticker sentiments.

How to make a card in less than 10 minutes....

CAS! (Clean and Simple)

I made a bunch of these because they are so cute, and EASY!
The piggy and sentiment are Stampin' Up, and the notecard is
from A*muse.

I have wanted Everyday Button Bits for a long time JUST so
I could make cute cards like these! I saved up and got the set this past month
and these are the first cards I've made!

This was my Mom's Mother's Day card. The background was stamped
with an Amuse stamp called "Zinnia." I love combining white, cream and yellow
and I have added the bright fuscia colour into the mix for some ZING!

Viola! Cardmaking CAN be quick and easy!

Jacksonbelle Tuesday Challenge: CAS

Welcome to this week’s Jacksonbelle Tuesday challenge!  Our challenge for you this week is to make a CAS card!  We’d love for you to play along.  If you do, be sure to leave a link to you project in the comments section of this post.

I decided to use some scraps to make my card (which always warms my heart) including some October Afternoon patterned paper. I cut the bee out with the Slice and my newest acquisition, the Hand Free Kit! If you don't have it and were wondering how well it works, well I'm here to tell you I love it! The magnet that holds the machine in place is SUPER strong and it doesn't budge... So cool!

Check out the DT's Clean and Simple creations!

**Don't forget my 100,000 hits celebration! I'm up to 21 NEW pieces of 12x12 patterned paper and I'll add one for ever comment until friday!

Giving myself Permission

my lonely craft area... so sad and unused.
  • I give myself permission to take a break from crafting when I am sick
  • I give myself permission to take a break from SCHOOL when I am sick! (this is the hardest thing for me to do...)
  • I give myself permission get frustrated that everytime I get sick, I get REALLY sick and develop this HORRIBLE cough and lose my voice. It's THE worst thing on the planet for a choir teacher... *sigh*
I have been SO sick this year and it seems like ever since I got H1N1 in October my immune system has stopped fighting, or is unable to fight, or whatever! But I am downright MAD now. Why do I get so sick, so often? I have started taking liquid vitamins (apparently they are superpower vitamins) and beyond that, I don't know what I can do.. Any suggestions??

It could be worse.. Which brings me to my next point.. I was blog hopping (because I am sick and can't do much more than that) and came across this story about Linda Burnasakorn.
Wow that is some heartbreak! To lead an absolutely normal life, get sick, then wake up from a coma with no feet and no fingers.. It takes my breath away.. I am going to donate to her cause and I hope you can find it in your hearts to do the same. I have NEVER done this on my blog, but her story is so real and heart-wrenching that I couldn't resist spreading the word.

PS.... Look at my hit counter.. I'm about to hit a HUGE milestone. Do you think I should celebrate?
